January 11th

The warning shots of freakout continued into the morning, so rather than sit around the apartment being useless I opted to take my uselessness elsewhere: the movies. Although I both left the house late and misjudged how long it would take to cross Prospect Park, I made it to the theater just in time to catch the opening credits of "Up In The Air," a film I enjoyed immensely. (I can see how the ending might leave some cold, but I felt that anything more tidy would have been trite, and even if the specifics of the plot weren't entirely wrapped up the thematic arc alone was very satisfying to me.)

I really enjoyed it too. Sometimes movies need more realism in their endings. Why would his life have changed that much in that amount of time?

Exactly -- just because he's ready to get on with his life doesn't mean the rest of the world will arrange itself to accomodate him.

I haven't seen that movie but my mind was kind of blown when I realized the younger female lead is the twerpy human friend from Twilight.

Apparently some measure of hilarity came out of that situation, as she was filming both movies simultaneously. Rpattz and Clooney got into a charm war? XD

Stuff like this makes me love Rpattz, but then I get all defensive, like "No! I like him beyond the sparkles! WHY ARE YOU LOOKING AT ME LIKE THAT?"

Ay, great movie! The ending struck me really hard, but even though I would have perhaps ENJOYED a happy ending more... this one made sense. It's more realistic.

Although I do have to wonder if critics give movies better ratings if they end depressingly. xD

I sometimes wonder about that myself, I'll admit. Although in this case it felt less depressing than just....like a beginning? He'd started on a new path in his life. One assumes he'll figure out what to do from here on in. :)
