Guys, it is Deadline Night and I have thousands of words left to write, and I am tired. I AM SO TIRED. Fandom is full of fail and shockingly bad judgment and my weekend was not so much full of sleep and it is very hot in this apartment. And I had to stay home instead of going to watch the fireworks with [livejournal.com profile] hoshizora and [livejournal.com profile] emsariel. < /whining >

BUT SO YOU KNOW, I am trying to stay positive! I am trying to keep my chin up! I am trying not to waste time feeling pissy when it would be much better to finish this work and you know DO SOMETHING ELSE TOMORROW THAT IS NOT WORK. But holy fuck, it is so hard to concentrate on anything. SO HARD. Like every sentence I type is a battle against my desire to be doing PRETTY MUCH ANYTHING ELSE.

That said. A thing that helps me concentrate? Non-lyrical music. Particularly soundtracky type music.

But there are only so many times I can listen to the "Moon" soundtrack in a single day, you know?

So: do any of you have some good-to-write-to tunes you can share with me?

If so, THAT WOULD BE GREAT! *_____*

But regardless, here, have one of my favorite tracks from the aforementioned Moon soundtrack! It is pretty great!

I highly recommend pretty much anything by Ratatat. Nothing they do has any lyrics but the music is great. A good mix of high energy without making you run out of your chair.

Sorry to hear about your weekend!

Here's some of my favourite wordless tunes (I listen to loads, I love that stuff). I don't know how good they would be to write to, but check them out if you want!

http://www.rosemarytravale.ca/music/rose_playlist.zip

And since I can't actually remember what's in that file here's some more good stuff:

Actually I'm rereading your post and I have no idea if any of this is really sound tracky. So here's sounds track stuff.

If you haven't gone and raided my fst tag -- or hell, even if you have -- I recommend the Heavy Rain mix; it makes really good writing music, I find.

I guess music depends on what I'm writing; I spent most of my last ssbb story listening to Sussan Deyhim, for obvious reasons. For academic writing, though, I tend to put on stuff by Tinariwen or The Very Best, or turn on my early music playlist.

BT's Emotional Technology, specificly
Dark Heart Dawning http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Po0OTLVdHjw
and The Great Escape http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p5oZWc8YRxA

Also their album "The Binary Universe". Here's the first track, it's much more ambient but it's got a narrative. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=P7bdECd3pQ0

NiN's "Still" and "Things Falling Apart" albums. The first for angsty scenes, the second for awesome.

Plaid's soundtrack album for Tekkon Kinkreet. Here's one of my favorites. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9lNPTFBH9bs I *HIGHLY* reccomend this album.

And this. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bOOAL4b5vco .

I...should stop there XP If any of this jives with you, I have more in that vein at various levels of obscurity XP

also, the first two links up there have words but I usually hear it more like part of the instrumentals since they arent really narrative or anything. The Binary Universe is pretty much wordless, and the last song on it is....fantabulous. It's all on youtube.

And seriously, Tekkon Kinkreet/Plaid= <3

I watched "Moon" this weekend. Interesting premise. Also, there was a short film "Whistle" which also had an interesting idea behind it (family man works as remote control assasin) but terrible timing error. (Dude! What you're doing wouldn't work in Real Time) which kind of detracted from the film.

Sound tracks - I used to find that if you could theme it to what you're writing era-wise, it would put things in the groove. When I was writing set in New Orleans, I'd listen to Zydeco or something in the '20's vintage jazz. Maybe you can find something to listen to that way?

It's the morning after, I know -- but I highly recommend Mick Turner/Dirty Three, Godspeed! You Black Emporer, Do Make Say Think, and Silver Mt. Zion (though there are some lyrics, they're kind of hypnotic).

If you want something a little low-toned, the album Ghosts for NIN is a completely 100% instrumental album... and it's FREE (well, at least the first 9 songs)!

Also, I realize this is a little late. Hope everything worked out!

I'm only catching you the day after, too, but my go-to instrumental music lately has been cellotastic: Zoe Keating and Yo-Yo Ma's "Appalachian Journey" album.

I hope you're having a good day of rest today!

Clint Mansell also, so you are probably already aware, but I LOVE the Fountain soundtrack.

Also, you need to hear this song, it is deep and provocative:
